Privacy notice

Last updated: 30 October 2026

In short: we use your details only to book and perform your offerings, send you receipts and the reminders you ask for, and run the app. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. You can delete your account at any time from your profile.

1. Who we are

Darshanam ("we", "us") is an online platform that lets devotees book Vazhipaadu (poojas), offer Bhandaram, sponsor Annadanam and support campaigns at Kerala temples, and lets temples manage these offerings. For the personal data described here, Darshanam (company registration in progress) is the Data Fiduciary under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

2. What we collect

  • Account: your name and email address (or mobile number), and the sign-in method you use (Google, Yahoo or email). We do not see your Google or Yahoo password.
  • Profile (optional): photo, date of birth, birth naal and Malayalam month, district and place.
  • Dear Ones (optional): names, relationship, photo, date of birth, naal and Malayalam month of family members and others you add.
  • Offerings: the poojas, Annadanam, Bhandaram and campaign gifts you book, the devotee name and naal for each, dates, amounts and receipt numbers.
  • Payments: the payment method and reference returned by our payment partner. We never see or store your full card number, CVV, UPI PIN or bank password.
  • Notifications: if you turn them on, a technical address for your device so we can send messages to it, and your choice of which messages you want.
  • Margadarshi (assistant): the questions you ask, so they can be answered, and a daily count of how many you asked.
  • Usage counts: how many times the app and each temple page are opened each day — counted without your name, account, device or IP address.
  • Temple administrators: also the temple's details, key contact and bank account submitted during registration, and actions taken in the dashboard (kept in an audit log).

3. Why we use it

  • To create and secure your account and keep your details in sync across your devices.
  • To place your bookings with the temple, take payment, issue receipts and show your offering history.
  • To send the notifications you choose: when an offering has been performed, when a campaign you supported reaches its goal, and on the birthdays, Pirannals and naals of you and your Dear Ones. These are reminders only; we will not ask you to book or pay.
  • To let temples perform the offering (they see the devotee name, naal, date and time for their own temple only).
  • To settle money with temples, meet tax and accounting law, prevent fraud and resolve complaints.
  • To answer your questions through Margadarshi.

We rely on your consent (for example, adding Dear Ones or turning on notifications) and on uses the law allows, such as keeping tax records.

4. Dear Ones — information about other people

When you add a Dear One you tell us that you are allowed to share their details with us for these reminders and bookings (for example, they have agreed, or you are the parent or guardian of a child). If a Dear One asks, please remove them; they can also write to us and we will delete their details.

5. Children

Accounts are for people aged 18 and over. Parents and guardians may add children as Dear Ones and book offerings in their name. We do not knowingly create accounts for children, track children or use children's data for advertising.

6. Who we share it with

  • The temple you book with: devotee name, naal, offering, date and time, and amounts. Temples do not see your email, phone, profile or Dear Ones.
  • Payment partner (currently Cashfree Payments) to process payments and refunds.
  • Service providers who run the app for us under contract: Supabase (database, sign-in and storage), Vercel (website hosting), OpenAI (answers to Margadarshi questions), Google and Yahoo (if you sign in with them), and your browser's or phone's notification service (Google, Apple, Microsoft or Mozilla) to deliver notifications.
  • Authorities when the law requires it, for example tax authorities or a court order.

We do not sell your personal data or share it for advertising.

7. Where it is stored

Your data is stored with our service providers, which may be in India or abroad. We use providers with strong security and contractual safeguards, and follow any restrictions the Government of India places on transfers outside India.

8. How long we keep it

  • Account, profile, Dear Ones and devices: until you delete them or your account.
  • Notifications: 60 days.
  • Receipts, payments, bookings and settlements: as long as tax and accounting law requires (currently up to 8 years), even after you delete your account — but no longer linked to your account.
  • Margadarshi questions are not stored by us after they are answered; only the daily count is kept. OpenAI may keep them for up to 30 days to detect misuse, under its API terms.

9. Your rights

  • See and correct your details — on your profile page, or ask us.
  • Delete your account — at the bottom of your profile page. Records the law requires us to keep are kept as explained above.
  • Withdraw consent — remove Dear Ones, turn off notifications or change which ones you get, at any time.
  • Nominate someone to exercise these rights if you die or become unable to — write to us.
  • Complain — to our Grievance Officer below. If you are not satisfied, you may approach the Data Protection Board of India.

10. Security

Data is encrypted in transit; each person and each temple can see only what they are allowed to see; staff actions are logged. If a breach affects your personal data, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.

11. Changes

We will update this notice when our practices change and show the new date at the top. Important changes will be shown in the app.
